THIS 2019 coincides with Tinnitus Week. Its theme this year is Isolation and Loneliness. Tinnitus is surprisingly common and for most people, it is not a problem. However, for some, it can be particularly disruptive or debilitating and isolating. This leaves them feeling that no-one understands what they are going through.
Hearing loss is also more common than one might suspect. Unfortunately, most people take more than ten years to accept that their hearing is in decline. They often change their lifestyle, almost subconsciously, to allow them to cope. This can lead to social isolation and as a result, contribute to the onset of cognitive decline and even dementia.
